Find support through the Safe and Sound Protocol

Sometimes our nervous systems get stuck in survival mode, making it hard to relax, connect with others, or feel fully present. Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a research-informed listening therapy designed to help your nervous system move out of chronic stress and into states of calm, connection, and regulation.

At CPJ, we offer SSP as a tool to help you feel safer in your body and more connected to the world around you.

Sometimes the nervous system becomes stuck in survival mode. Even when life feels relatively stable, the body may continue responding as if danger is present.

This can show up as:

  • Constant tension or alertness.

  • Difficulty relaxing or sleeping.

  • Emotional reactivity or shutdown.

  • Feeling disconnected from others or from yourself.

These patterns are not a personal failure. They reflect how the brain and body prioritize protection when safety has felt unpredictable.

Why Stress Does Not Always Resolve on Its Own

What is Safe and Sound Protocol?

Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a listening therapy developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and grounded in Polyvagal Theory.

It uses specially filtered music to gently stimulate the vagus nerve through the frequencies of the human voice. This process helps the nervous system relearn cues of safety, allowing the body to shift out of defensive states and into greater regulation.

Rather than relying on conscious effort alone, SSP works from the bottom up, supporting physiological regulation first.

Clients often notice benefits like:

  • Improved sleep and digestion.

  • Feeling calmer and more grounded.

  • A more regulated voice and emotional tone.

  • Better connection with self and others.
